Nu Epsilon Chapter History
In the Fall of 2009, a group of women came together to form an organization which accurately represented them. Their main purpose was to bring a sorority to campus that promoted the advancement of all women. On November 23, 2009, the group of women decided that they shall be called Eminence and on December 22, 2009, they were officially recognized as an interest group. Eminence expanded rather quickly, and before February 2010, it grew to consist of thirteen women. Only ten women were on the petition, which was sent to Headquarters on May 25, 2010. Eminence officially became a colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. on August 3, 2010.
For various semesters, these women have worked to be recognized as an official member of the Black and Latino Greek Council. They were involved in various service projects to uphold the five principles of the sorority: Academics, Community Service, Cultural Awareness, Social Interactions, and Morals and Ethics. As a result of their hard work and dedication, on September 27, 2012, they were officially recognized as colony members of the BLGC. As of May 14, 2013 at 9:46 pm (CST), West Chester University Colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc. is now the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc.
For the last few years, the Nu Epsilon Chapter has set off to continue pursuing the vision of both the Chapter founders and National founding mothers. They have hosted various events and programs to carry out their organization’s mission of providing all women with the mechanisms to succeed and empower them to continue succeeding. In the past, Nu Epsilon has also participated in numerous community service events including the Philly AIDS Walk, Suicide Awareness Walk, Walk for Water for Africa, and Links for a Cause (to name a few).
Sigma Lambda Gamma Nu Epsilon Chapter continues to be a pioneer in the Greek fraternal world through development of innovative programming initiatives, such as the Young Women’s Leadership Program and Emotional Intelligence. Our members recognize the need for togetherness and support among women of varying cultures at the university level and they remain dedicated to the overall success of women in a global environment.
